Acoustic Synthesizers

Postby the4thImpulse » 13 May 2013 11:02

This is easily the biggest thing in synthesis technology in a long long time (in my opinion).

Rather modifying a voltage or waveform, whether in real time or in a DAW, it changes the way a string physically vibrates. Its makes an acoustic guitar have synth harmonics and timbres by vibrating the strings with "very precise magnetic fields".

I wonder what this would sound like on an electric guitar. Either way, I can see some really cool music coming from this.

I don't even play guitar and I want it.. now.

I wish I had 1,500 spendable dollars for this.

I am sure that in a few years it will be available at a much cheaper price. This is brand new tech.

Still...

These people don't plan on mass producing it and selling it in stores. They will be expensive but that way they have complete control over quality and features. Maybe another company will pick the idea up and make cheaper options available, but first they need to see the response this thing gets.

WANT IT NEED IT.

The closest I ever got to synth on a guitar was making dubstep style sounds with an electronic guitar; using a Hot Hands wah-wah ring and a volume pedal..

Put it on a bass and make dubstep :I

Yeah, this is really cool. The technology seems impressive. Don't have much more to say.

I'd probably have no use for this...y'know..since I'm not a fan of the whole 'guitar' thing.

Still neat though.

That would be the Moog Guitar, made by the same guy, it's been around for a few years already and sounds pretty similar, plus it can manipulate articulation :3

This looks interesting.

I thought 'acoustic synthesizer' was an oxymoron?

Moog Guitar is my mane instrument actually. It's a beast...I wasn't a guitar player until I got that guitar and now I play that and modular synthesizer almost exclusively. The inventor, Paul Vo, is a really cool guy. I've spoken to him about the technology in the Moog Guitar a few times, and as a former bass player, I asked about making it work with a bass. Sadly, it's unlikely. The good news is that it wouldn't take much to turn the Moog Guitar into a heavy duty bass machine. (I know, I've done it)

As a EDM producer first, Pianist second and guitarist third, this is an overhyped resonator. Now don't get me wrong. it's impressive and all, but all it seems to do is amplifying the vibrations of some harmonics, which is pretty much what acoustic guitars did since... a long time ago, except focusing on the lowest harmonics? I might see some uses for it, but nah, that's just not a synthesizer.
