The 3D Modelers/Riggers/Animators Thread

Postby Navron » 20 Jun 2013 17:06

Who all out there likes to play around in 3dsMax, Maya, Blender, Lightwave, or any other 3d application? Here's a thread for you.

Post your models, animations, etc. that you've created, or WiPs.

Here's an Applejack model I'm working on:

Right now I've got the main body and eyes rigged, but I still need to create blend shapes for the facial expressions, create controllers for all the expressions, and create hair systems for the eyebrows, eyelashes, mane, and tail.

Don't forget her hat.
Otherwise how would she keep herself from being a background pone?

The hat will be modeled and added easily.

The tricky part I'm trying to figure out is how to create a ribbon and tie her hair with it. With polygonal hair it would be relatively simple, but I plan on utilizing a dynamic hair system with actual hair strands. Probably a way to do it, but I imagine it'll be a very complicated system to setup.

I've heard Blender can be used for music video visuals, routing sound somehow to it (using Python and the game engine, I figure?), is this right?

It's definitely possible to route sound in Blender, but I wouldn't make a 4-5min music video within it, simply due to rendering times.

All 3d programs take a long time to render because it has to calculate every single piece of geometry, every single particle, and every effect within the 3d coordinate system.

Instead I would utilize a 3d program to create objects or short animations to use in the music video, render those, and composite them in a separate program like After Effects, which has significantly faster render times.

In Blender it takes me 5 minutes to render a basic 10 second animation. I wouldn't recommend trying to make visuals with it.
