What makes an artist or song "take off?"

We all love it, otherwise it's unlikely you'd be here. Talk about the show and the fanbase surrounding it. Brony music discussions encouraged.

I also got into it because I saw friends of mine who are also producers and I heard the music they were making and i wanted to jump in as well. But as I kept making more music, I realized that "if the fame comes, it comes." Right now I'm thankful for the small fanbase that I do have, the people I met and the fun I've been having and will continue to have. It's about the journey not the destination in this case and I'm just glad I'm making music that people seem to enjoy.

Which, in all honesty was my intention from the beginning. I admire your stance on the issue. What happens, happens.

Also, I love it that you are making music that you like to make.

Wanna know the truth? The truth on how an artist can "take off" or gain fans?
Dedication. That's all it is.
Yeah, you can go share your music around everywhere, but if you're not content with your music and are too concerned about getting fans, then you will go nowhere. I've had moments where I think "I should be more popular" but I get past those and keep working on my music, cause in the end, it's all about the music. This way of thinking (and my decent friendship with him) has earned me support from the infamous D.Notive (who is a great guy and wonderful advice giver)

So just be yourself, make your music, and everything will be alright. Maybe you won't take off, or gain thousands of followers, but that shouldn't matter to you because it's about the music, not the fans. Earning fans should be a treat, not a motivation.

Also it helps to actually make good music and have something that makes you you. Also, as navron said, if you're gonna make your own sound, then the brony community isn't the best place to do it. Let's take Omnipony for example. He's pretty high up in the brony ranks. Know what else? He's nothing but a cheap replica of xKore.

A lot of the big names in the brony fandom, in fact almost all of them are bronies that have been around for a long time. Back when the fandom was young, not many people made music, so those who made decent music easily got a name for themselves. It's no where near as easy nowadays, as there's so many artists and people just can't be bothered listening to new music by unfamiliar names.
