The MLP Comic

We all love it, otherwise it's unlikely you'd be here. Talk about the show and the fanbase surrounding it. Brony music discussions encouraged.

The MLP Comic

Postby Sonarch » 26 Jan 2013 12:13

So I did a search and it looks like there isn't a thread about the pony comic. I wasn't really that interested when it was announced, but I heard it topped a bunch of other comics in preorders. Anyway, I haven't read it yet, so I figured I'd order one and see how it is. Have any of you read it? What do you think? I figured if i'm going to get into it I should figure that out soon since they're already on the third issue or something. I guess this can be the discussion thread for it too, so feel free to do that.

I want to get it. I've heard that it's good. Enjoy it, but after you read it store it in an airtight bag in a safe place, you never know how valuable it could be in 10 or so years

I think I need some kind of comic storage box, cause i've got a few other comic books and they're just strewn about in my room.

Also, favorite variant cover?

I think mine would have to be this one

I can't believe how many variants they released, to a certain degree that should be a crime of fan exploitation. I am curious to see what you guys thought as the brief leak of some of the inner art looked good.

Yeah, no money. And any money I do get will be spent on my home studio (acoustic panels, monitors, new computer, audio interface...) as well as the German exchange trip I'm doing, which I still have about $2500 to pay for, lol.

It's 2 bucks on iTunes as well, but if you're saving up for music stuff then I don't blame you

Well it's likely out of print which means that every store will jack the price. Not sure i want to deal with all the speculators out there.

How on earth does Itunes do a comic? Is like a live comic and narrated or something? (That's how they did the Watchman comic i believe)

I have issues 1 & 2, and they're pretty good! The drawing is excellent, and the writing is not half bad either. I like it better than the current TV show, honestly.

I got my comic today in the mail, it's pretty great. I really dig the art in there too.

Do you guys think this would be something worth making an investment in? Like, getting a few copies of some of the variant covers to store away, that I could put up for sale if they become highly valued? I'm already seeing those Jetpack and Larry's variants (the superhero Dash and Fluttershy ones) are up on eBay for a lot of money, because apparently they only made like 750 of them or something. Just figured I'd consult with some people before I go and blow a bunch of money on these comics.

How much money exactly would you be blowing, and how much are the ones on ebay selling for? It all depends on whether or not you'll be making a decent profit off of this. You should look into how much some rare comics sell for to get a general idea of the figures you'll be working with.

Well I don't really know how much they'll be worth in the future, since they're relatively new. I just figured that low production number might mean it'll be worth a lot later. I'll go do some comic research now I guess.

Alright i've basically talked myself out of it but I still kinda want to get some of the cooler variants just because I like them.
