Genres you'd LOVE to see some Brony music made in

We all love it, otherwise it's unlikely you'd be here. Talk about the show and the fanbase surrounding it. Brony music discussions encouraged.

We need more N64 style'd songs. I know there's a certain KingSpartaX37 but somehow they always include something that annoys me, like some very weird use of an unfitting eletronic-y instrument in a mostly N64 song, which really puts me off.

Also, he's the only one, and I'm not a very good composer so I'm not going to count myself. We need moar!

The genre is called chiptune and a TON of brony musicians do that type of music.

Uh, I wasn't referring to that type of music. There's a lot of music based on 8-bit and 16-bit, but I do not see many based off the type of music of the Nintendo 64.

It's like orchestral except with (nostalgic) old soundfonts. Also the certain quirky style is not used very much.
Basically, I'm referring to songs like soundtracks from Banjo Kazooie.

i think i should just stop talking

Trance.

You can't believe how hard it was to find in the fandom enough new, good and playable trance for ASOB every two weeks.

We actually have PLENTY of Jazz in the fandom although we can ALWAYS use more.

Sad thing is i remember talking to Glitchhog (before we became Strobe and went all electro house) and he said EQD basically avoided most brony instrumental jazz by policy. Which kinda narrows down how much you see of it.

I beg to differ =P
The reason? Ten-twenty years from now everyone will look back and call all genre's of electronic and EDM "Dubstep" whether we like it or not, and just leave it at that =P I mean, the people who lived back in the 80's had just as many names for their music then as we do now for ours, and what do we group it as now? New Wave and rock. Its just a fact of musical evolution that mass genre grouping is going to occur =P

So no, there aren't merely two "main" genres of 80's music gannondox, there are actually a TON of other types of music from the 80's just waiting to be explored :3

Well i agree the New Wave is a pretty wide label. It's synthpop, pop-rock, ska, post-punk, jangle pop, indie pop, early alt rock, dance-punk....there's just a ton of different directions that music went. Likewise AOR, glam rock, rock, heavy metal, alt rock...so saying its 2 genres of the 80's isn't really right but its not FAR off when using 2 rather genric labels (just like people will be doing with dubstep, electro, and edm)

Well obviously there is more than two genres popular during the 80s, it's just that when people think of 80s music as a genre most of it can be sorted into one of those two genres or somewhere along those lines when using them generically, or it's Michael Jackson/Maddona. The point is genres don't die with the decade, so calling them 80's music unless you are referring to the dominant sound or using a term like 80's alternative is ineffectual. Many genres from the 80s as well as other decades have been made in the fandom, but unless they are like Spirit of Fire we aren't going to call them 80's music, we would refer to the specific genre. For example, Thrash Metal was most popular in the 80's, but no one is going to call a pony thrash song an 80's style song or as covering 80's music. Also, what Freewave said.

I still haven't found any emo pony music. That's my favorite genre so that would be lovely to have. Some pony music has a very similar vibe though. I'd do it myself but i suck at it and don't seem to get any better :P. Emo is a pretty ambiguous term though so here are a few examples of what i mean:

@ganondox: That actually very much reminds me of My Chemical Romance. That's not the kind of emo i mean :D. It's just not my kind of music. dbPony obviously makes good music though.

The stuff i'm talking about is not so dark. It's also less rock but has very powerful and loud moments nonetheless. It's "sparkly" like people like to call it (lots of arpeggiated chords, guitar tapping and colorful chords) and it tends to sound happy or bittersweet but not sad or depressing (at least that's how i feel), so no emo scenster here ;). And a lot of bands have not so clean vocals that somehow sound great anyway. Oh, and brass instruments! Lots of trumpets.

The genre has been around since the 90's but recently there's been a "Midwest Emo Revival" that made people more aware of it. You may know bands like The Get Up Kids or Jimmy Eat World. They're among the best known bands in that genre. Their older stuff is more emo than their newer music but it still carries a similar vibe. Emo is an ambiguous term though since there have been hardcore bands before that are considered to have started the genre in the first place but sound nothing like the bands today unless you're talking about screamo so there's definitely some confusion. And let's not forget My Chemical Romance, Silverstein and co. as well as those harder emoish metalcore bands (*shudder* especially to the latter).

ISMBOF's We'll B in Harmony, Even Through Struggle comes the closest to emo in my opinion:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_96029&feature=iv&src_vid=HUoQseF6Lpw&v=1RHbadSM6XU

There's your short description and history of emo. :)

Id really like to hear pony du step as I haven't really found much and I know there are a select few who enjoy the genre. specificlly the fandom is lacking in the kind if generic brosteppy kinds of sounds with wet growl ultrabasses.

Nah, but in seriousness I'd quite like some old school DnB. Some proper jungle and liquid would be pretty awesome.
