Solid DJing right here

Postby CDPP » 30 Jul 2013 23:48

Never seen anyone actually mix a trap set this well; thoughts on his transition techniques?

oh please tell me this video is a joke.

This guy can't be serious. The only logical explanation is that this video is a satire or something.

I'm much more impressed with the control this guy has over what he's doing than the awful stuff he's playing.

This literally sounds like he's just hitting buttons at random while a track plays in the background. Everything's scattered around and nothing is mixed in well, causing samples to stick out like a sore thumb. It's similar to a little kid playing the piano. It looks cool and all, but I think that even people jacked up on an acid trip wouldn't be too impressed, mostly confused.

That's how I interpreting it.

They guy obviously has some amount of skill, it was still quite sloppy in seem areas but for the most part it was passable. The equipment is industry standard stuff, nothing too special besides the gold shell paint.

He is a serious DJ and I think this video is taking all those horriblely overused DJ techniques and making something sorta good out of it.

lol. Didn't notice until you said so. I never really thought that people would make a joke about djing other than the obvious ones, or if they did that it would be more obvious than this video. The title is somewhat of a giveaway, although I interpreted the title as typical mainstream trap-slang-stuff.

The fact that people can take this seriously speaks volumes about the trap scene. I'm surprised not everyone died laughing when the airhorns came in

Wait, wait... do people really think this is legit?
There isn't a single sample that's actually on time, and the entire thing is a huge parody of some of the trap cliches.

Lol. I watched like 30 seconds of it, haha. No wonder I didn't get the joke. Yeah, I generalize the trap scene a lot, but that's mostly because a lot of the cover art for trap songs I've seen feature a big black dude with gang signs or something. Seriously:

So apparently the dude's name is DJ Shiftee, and there were lots of videos of him that popped up on youtube. Here's an NI promo video that seems to be in the same place as the video in the first post, if anyone's interested.

Edit: It just occurred to me that they're the same video, and the guy who made the first video just put in his own audio. Haha, I feel pretty stupid now...

I didn't notice this until you put your edit - guess I'm even more stupid. xD (though I knew there was something fishy about it)

Damn, not a fan of the genre, but the real video is definitely impressive. Makes me wish I had stuck with dj-ing when I started a few years back. Maybe I'll have to grab some second hand gear and give it a shot again.

Definitely. I'd like to pick up some DJ skills once I get production down.

Cute joke. Since this thread isn't serious or actually dealing with technique I'm gonna lock.
