Scarlett 2i4 Issue

Postby Pix31 » 15 Jan 2013 22:47

So I recently got my hands on a Scarlett 2i4 as my first audio interface with two Yamaha MSP7's but after I registered it, installed the required drives and plugged it into my PC I wasn't able to get any sound from either of my monitors. The Scarlett appears in my devises manager, is register in my sound devises.

Would anyone have an answer to why its not working?

I'm not sure exactly where the problem may lie so I will give you random possibly helpful tips that hopefully can solve it.

- Restarting the computer, it works sometimes so is worth a try
- Double check all volume knobs are turned up on the interface, monitors, and your computer. Its happened to me and many people I know, simple mistake.
- I see the interface has a 'mix' knob between input and playback, you will likely want that on playback
- Make sure the computer is using it as the soundcard for your audio player. I use windows media player to just play songs like any other person would, sometimes my computer doesn't route the audio out of WMP to my soundcard, I don't know why but its happened.
-Make sure no other audio aplication is using the soundcrad besides the one you want to, shutdown all other programs. You should be able to disable this in the device properties so it works with everything.

Is there any other info you can give us?

To add to 4th's -make sure the program itself is using the Focusrite 2.0 audio driver for output

Also, Scarletts come with a program called MixControl (mine does anyway), check that program and make sure your routing is okay and that nothing is muted.

Okay, so I tired restarting, no volume nobs to speak of (least as far as I can tell) other then the two LEVEL controls on the back of the MSP7's which were already adjusted to mid range. I set my DAW to use Focusrite 2.0 audio driver but it could only be done via ASIO. I also swtiched from Input to Playback but I'm still not getting anything.

I also downloaded MixControl but it stated that no hardware was available. And the Plug-in-suite that was included is pretty much useless as far as I can tell.

My main DAW is Renoise.

AMD Phenom(tm) ||X4 980T Processor 3.00 GHz

Kind of a dumb question, but are the monitors/speakers plugged into the audio interface or the computer? I recently got an audio interface and initially used strictly USB. It worked for inputs, but I basically had two sound cards running and it played hell with my computer. Simply plugging my monitors into the AI and using the asio drivers it came with instead of asio4all fixed all issues I had.

Like I said, perhaps a dumb question, but worth asking. Disregard if I glazed over something already mentioned.

There are volume knobs on the front of the interface as well but I'm sure you would have noticed them as they are right beside the 'input/playback' switch.

Lets keep this as simple as possible right now, ignore your DAW and instead just play some random audio track, a song you like. Go to the speaker icon on the bottom right side of your screen (you know those icons beside the time, right-click the one that looks like a speak). Open up the 'playback devices' menu and set the default soundcard to your scarlett soundcard.

Keep the soundcards 'output' volume all the way down when switching around menus and stuff because you don't want to overload the speakers and potentially damage them with a quick burst of sound.

Congratulations! Enjoy the soundcard.

I would suggest doing your best to try to backtrack your way so you know how to fix it when it inevitably doesn't work some random morning, it will happen, best be prepared.

Are you kidding? that reverb, and EQ are excellent, especially considering they are essentially free, the compressor isn't bad either.
