Trying Renard-ish Style (Need Help)

Postby @ppleBukker » 22 Jan 2012 20:14

Okay, so I've got a project I'm working on and it's a raggacore/breakcore kinda song. I'm trying to do something for Discord, I guess. The only thing is, I'm really lost on where to go.

I've got the glitchy drums kinda down path, but really nothing past that.

So, a few questions are:
What is a good tempo?
What VST(s) should I use?
What effects should I use?

I'm probably really overthinking everything, but I want it to be perfect. Any suggestions?

For a breakcore-ish song I'd go around 200-300 bpm maybe. You just need to use what VST you like as long as you can get the sound you want out of it. For the genre you're attempting, there's usually a lot of distortion, I'd use some free distortion plugins and bitcrusher plugins. Also, a great glitch plugin I like to use is this: http://illformed.org/plugins/glitch/

Renard's breakcore style varies so much. You have the melodic ICU, the distorted "Banned Forever", the glitch vocal "Forcing you into my Life", and a bunch of other songs that are never the same.

One of the things that holds true in most of his songs, though, is the drumming. Sadly, that's the one thing that will forever escape my grasp of understanding.

That sounds a lot better than 170 bpm. I'll bump the beats up.

Hm, you do have a good point as far as his diverse songs. I'm trying to go for a System Failure type song.

Many thanks for the help, everypony.
