HOW TO WRITE METALCORE
http://soundcloud.com/robertanderson-2/tutorial-song
Hi there! I'm pinkie guy and this is my tutorial on writing metalcore music.
A great way to start a song is with a simple arpeggiated guitar pattern. Once you have your pattern, pan it to the left 100%, and we're then going to duplicate it (I MEANT RE-RECORD IT) and pan that copy to the right.
This effect is called double track. We're going to do that with all the guitar in this song. We've now applied some effects to the guitars to make them brighter, and sit more in the mixing. Next we're going to add some rhythm guitars.
The chord structure in this song is a very common Metalcore Chord structure; that is I III VI V.
Now that we have our chords sorted, we're going to add some bass and a lead guitar line. You can add vocals here too.
The next thing to add is some distorted guitar to pick up the mood as a whole. You can add cymbal and bass drum hits to bring those guitars out.
Drums in metal are very important, as they help bring out the feel.
- Snare on 2+4: Dance Feel
- Snare on offbeat: Fighting Feel
- Snare on every beat: Purposive Feel
- Snare everywhere: Heavy/Manic Feel.
