Extracting vocals from shows?

Postby Shouki » 05 Jan 2013 05:09

how is this done? I'm usually trying a para-graphic EQ and a couple filters to try and take the vocals from MLP in specific. But the way i'm doing it involves me to record the audio from the show using gold wave. Is there a much simplar way to do this?

I wanna apologize in advance if this subject was already answered.

http://www.mlptf2mods.com/create/reference-materials

Also, I remember someone linked a website a while ago that has the the pony a cappellas. Anybody know where this is?

And EQ, graphic or parametric, is not something I would suggest using if you want to extract vocals from the show.

Hey mods, don't suppose you wouldn't mind sticky-ing any of the dozens of threads that ask for acapellas and get this link as a response, wouldn't you? I, or somebody else, could even quickly create a thread right now titled "Episodes of MLP Acapella", and you guys could sticky it right away, or I suppose there's already a thread titled something similarly somewhere on this forum. Just sayin', seems that almost every newcomer starts a new thread about getting acapellas, and every time they get the same response. It would be convenient to sticky one of those threads.

Right near the bottom of the page you linked, you'll find the episodes acapella. Guess they changed the layout :)

1. Download the itunes version and un-drm with Requiem
2. import into Vegas
3. solo the vocal track
4. ???
5. Profit!
New track in the works!!

DAW: Sony Acid Pro 6
VSTi: NI Massive 1.3

Does Vegas see the multiple audio channels and give you the option of isolating JUST the vocal channel? I thought this method would only give you the audio (with BGM included). If that's not the case then this is an easy shortcut!

We DO have it stickied. It's in technique, I forget what the thread was called but it ended with 'Look here before asking questions!'

The acapellas are at the bottom of the first post.

Ah, alright. Well, I guess that the link isn't obvious enough, or people won't think to look there because they aren't necessarily looking for a guide. We could have Nav or another mod add on to the title: "+ MLP Episodes Acapella"? That'd be way over the character limit for titles though.

We're working on a new layout to ensure people have quick and instant access to all knowledge. Still needs some ironing out, but hopefully this will eventually turn into a new wave of cyber knowledge, where everything you ever wanted to know is within a single click, vs the current 3, thus saving between all 2000 members of this board ~ 1.5hrs in lost time given it takes each person ~ 3 seconds to click 3 links.

Wow, that's a pretty good idea you have going there. Although it looks like it'll get in the way and be more disruptive and in-your-face than incredibly helpful. Um, I actually contemplated asking this a while back, and I'm not sure if you guys will be able to do this, but just create a thread that's on the mainpage, and isn't a part of a subforum, it's just a thread that you can see on the board index, and for each FAQ, there'll be one thread for it. It'll work much like the "Forum Rules" announcement thing that Stars in Autumn made, where you can see the thread in every subforum, except instead of being seen in the subforums like a regular announcement, it would just be sitting there in the board index. I'm not sure I did the best job explaining it, so if you're confused I can clarify better

Yep! Vegas does indeed recognize all six channels. At least it does with the newer versions (I use v12)

Audacity is just as good if you don't have money :P
As for inverting so you can get rid of the subtle bg noises, yeah it can do that as well but Audition and Vegas will give you more options to do so.

Should I make a video on doing this? Lol I think in order to get it as good as mlptf2mod you'll have to invert the 5 channels and layer them over the center channel. Not sure, haven't jumped on it yet because my card expired so i can buy anymore episodes on iTunes T_T

" you'll have to invert the 5 channels and layer them over the center channel"

No.

One of the six tracks is just vocals. You load it up, solo the vocal track, and you're done. It's really that easy.

Most of the time, the center channel will contain bits of the LR and RearLR sounds. For dialogue, this isn't a problem (again most of the time). For songs, it is.
Its subtle but still audible if you listen to it on its own.

That's actually not a bad suggestion. We could perhaps setup an archive forum that would in essence be, the MLR Music Guide.

On the main board index, have a closed, info. only forum that topics of particular importance can be moved to and organized. The Music Guide and links to the MLP Vocals can both be stickied in there, since they seem to be the most frequently asked, and then any great how-to topics can be locked and added there for future reference.

I'll talk it over with the admins and see what we can do.
