[ /late] D:

Example progression:
>intro, featuring call/answer of simplified percussion loops, and introducing key elements of the track (snippets of offbeat synths and basslines, vocals, etc.)
>kick comes in and add more elements after each set of ~8 bars
>small breakdown, introducing a lead and/or vocal building up towards the return of the kick
>mid-intro, including elements above + the kick
>breakdown, vocals take over again and main melody is introduced
>buildup towards climax... gotta have snares
>melody + kick and whatever else you want to add
>small breakdown introducing new variation of the main melody + some vocals
>2nd part of climax, building up towards anti-climax
>another breakdown, returning elements from mid intro
>elements from midintro fade away into an outro until nothing is left
>end of track

Tracks like this are kinda tedious at start and finish but those parts are usually included so DJ's can mix tracks easier. If you don't want to end up with a 5~6 minute track: start with a breakdown that builds up to the mid intro and at the end make a very short, mild, but powerful outro.

Btw... what I just said isn't a standard recepe for a hardstyle track. It's just a random example of what you can expect if you picked a random hardstyle track. :)

Well im not sure if what we do is hard style but bassically. Hard and fat kicks all around. Spike, Ive seen, will sit on ableton live and layer kick after Kick. Aussie inspired the idea. I think he runs a basslne through it to though. Im not sure how he does that.

Just telling you, dont forget to listen to analyze hardstyle yourself ^_^
that is always a good exercise with anything, besides that it works pretty well =)

How to make raw kicks:

>Open a new project
>take a 909
>overdrive the shit out of it
>apply effects (EQing, phaser, mastering, filters, phasers, whatever fits your taste...
>Try to get the kicktail to fit a certain tone.
>Render it as .wav
>Save project (in case you want to render other variations of the same kick)
>Open the .wav in your main project and let the kicktail be the bassline of the the track (so called 'pitch kicks')
>profit.jpg

This is what the mixer looks like for one of my kicks:

I screenshotted the effects from each layer, and sorted from insert 1 to 6 in order from left to right. :)

Qlimax 2011 going on as we speak. Sadly I couldn't acquire my tickets in time (they were sold out in minutes), but they're streaming the ENTIRE event live on Q-Dance Radio:
http://radio.q-dance.nl/

If you wanna hear some slick Harddance sets and livesets, listen to this. This is THE leading Hardstyle event in the world. :)

This thread is propably dead, but I'm gonna post something anyway.
---Starting a Track---

I personally think the best way to start a hardstyle track is with a melody so you can build your mainpart and then figure out what kind of intro would suit the track the most.

---Structure---

Preintro: Start off with some claps, snares or filtered kicks. Build it up by adding new elements over time. Put in some sounds or vocals that appear later on in you track like a single screech with much reverb or some kind of FX kick. It's not a important part for your track but that doesn't mean you need to be lazy.

Intro: After the preintro go into a short break where you introduce the sounds that will play in the intro or tease the melody and then anticlymax it into your intro synths. Make sure to build up the energy so that everyone just wants you to blast their brains away with your kick ;-) The Intro sounds itself are your place to get really creative.

Mainpart: Bam, now that your intro rocked the place you go into a break which builds up your melody. set the mood with some pads, bells, piano, etc. Then slowly fade in your Leadsynth...or just go into a short moment of silence and burst out with the leadsynth in all it's glory right away. Add some claps and snares, maybe bring back a vocal that you used earlier. then agian it's about building up the energy to the climax. it's allways nice to have a short moment of silene before your kick starts. The climax itself is not that hard:
play around with the kick, maybe add a second synth or anything. you can go into a second break to introduce some melody changes or just drop the changes in there without a break.

Outro: A lot of producers just copy their intro in here, which is ok, but I think it's better to be a bit more original in this part. Use some elements from the melody or combine parts of the melody with your intro synths. Then take away the elements one after another untill your done.

---The MOST. IMPORTANT. THING: Building a kick---
Building a kick will be a pain in the ass if you are just starting with Hardstyle, deal with it! There is no easy way in doing that (don't even think about using samples!).
Ellie from the Toneshifterz made a really good tutorial explaining almost everything:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGBN96FVt2k

That's it, I wrote enough for now.
I hope i could help at least a little bit ;-)

PS: I was at Qlimax 2011 and it was just insane. Zany & The Pitcher played the best set in the whole Hardstyle history!
