Ableton Instruments

Postby JustTwoBits » 08 Feb 2012 06:31

Hey there everypony!

I'm new here, and just getting started on the music scene in general. Slowly, but surely, I'm clawing my way through this monster of a program called Ableton, and I've come across a specific problem.

I need new instruments. Like, the ones that you can play directed from a MIDI keyboard(even though I do not have one). I've found a few packs of samples that I'm rather happy with, but I've yet to find any instrument packs.

Anything you guys can do to help would be super appreciated!

Thanks!

Might I suggest this thread: http://www.mylittleremix.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=490

You'll have to put the VSTs into one folder and tell Ableton what folder they are in.

Hope this helps!

If you ever need help using Ableton, come to the irc chat and ask me anything

Live has some decent synths, but you'll probably be easier off using vst plugins.

And welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Also, if Live is too hard for you, don't be afraid to switch to another DAW.

FLStudio is the most popular one in here, followed by ableton. There also is free LMMS, reason and cubase. first two are used by about 70% of this community while the five are used by 95%

Thanks a bunch guys!

What I was really looking for is somewhere/way to get instrument presets for live, however. ^.^;

Presets? Where's the fun in that? Best thing to do is to learn to claw your way through synths, too. Get a good synth, then find tutorial videos on how to make certain sounds with it. Now, not only do you know how to make a certain sound without just loading a preset, but you have a better understanding of how to make your own sounds.

You have a very good point...

Except I have no clue about what Synths are actually worth getting, nor do I know how to use one if I did....

Check out the thread @ppleBukker linked you to. =P

Off the top of my head, some good synths are Synth1, Oatmeal, and Atlantis. I use Synth1 for /everything/. >.>
Then, some really good not-so-free synths include Massive, Sylenth1, Z3ta 2, Nexus... It really depends on what music you're making. All of these synths should have tutorials on Youtube on how to do things with them. Especially Massive and Sylenth1.
