Bronies, Ponies, & Loneliness (AKA: Marching Band & Ponies.)

Postby Dimondium » 20 Oct 2012 18:54

Hey, my first post!

Anyways, I'm looking for any arrangers on the site who can work by ear, or who specialize in any general instrument/composition/arrangement style, I.E. woodwinds or percussion. This is for a marching band show I plan to perform next year, in lieu of another I had planned. I'm also looking for those who know how to write a marching routine. I have a willing band of 150+ at my disposal, all I need is you guys to make it happen. I am currently assisted by one ear arranger who's a novice, one expert arranger who can not work by ear, and a percussion specialist. Any more help is welcome.

(Or if you can work with MIDI's and make them sound really good, I also could use you for when it's finished and I need a digital preview to show the band since they're probably unfamiliar rhythms.)

The show order (and assumed keys) are below. You can decide if you want on or not after seeing the songs.

Part 1:
Rainbow Factory (F Sharp Minor)
Nightmare Night (A Minor)
One Trick Pony (It starts on a G, but F sounds cooler, so...assuming a minor, we’re in F Minor..)

Part 2:
Daddy Discord (A Minor to C Minor)
Lullaby For A Princess (Ponyphonic) (B Major, but we're taking it down to B Flat major to be more practical).
I'll Be Waiting - Derpy's Song (Mandopony) (G Major, has a key change but we won't quite get to that.)

Part 3:
Fear of Flight (Aviators) (D Minor)
Monster (the brony one, silly!) (Presumed A Minor, correct me if I'm wrong.)
Discord (In B, but again, transposed to B Flat for practicality)

Anybody who's interested in both pony music in schools, AND marching pony music, make a post or something!

I would absolutely love to take part in this. I have quite a bit of experience with brass and front ensemble. (If you want to be nitpicky, I have more experience with woodwinds, just not so much in a marching environment), and would be willing to help with transcription, if needed. Anyways, I have to give you serious props for this. I hope that everything will work out well.

Excellent! I'll be certain to send you a PM shortly with other things!

(Woodwinds and marching...well, I'm a clarinetist, so let me worry about woodwinds.)

Good luck though.

I'll get started right away. This may, in fact, be a dream come true. I'll be working on a piano roll. I don't have much experience composing with different instruments, but I learn on the job.

Love marching band. Love composing and arranging and covering songs in new styles. I'll throw some ideas down-- and really get to work starting November

[EDIT]

another things, are the "parts" three songs in a medley, or three individual songs, or do you intend to play all, what, 8 of them back to back?

Experience is your friend!

I mean like a medley, as most shows are. Just look up 'Tate High School Showband of the South Styx and Stones' for an example.

(Oh, and that's my band too. :P)

Edit: The parts are seperate medleys,FYI. So you might wanna use three files.

Edit 2: Also, it must fit within 10 minutes. So each medley may not exceed about 3:17. As per marching standards. Feel free to ask any questions you have!

I assumed so (I'm not sure One Trick Pony could stand alone), but wanted to check before I got in too deep.
