“Your song is only one genre?”

Welcome to the seventh round of the successful Brony vs Brony Remix War!

As with the previous remix wars, this contest is split into two parts. Part one is creating a remix of another brony’s work. The same rules apply as all previous remix wars. One song only, the original must of been produced by a brony (no show songs), and preferably you should remix something that’s not been done 100 times over (Oh god, no more Rainbow Factory remixes).

Part two will be a collab challenge. The goal is to find another brony musician who typically works in a different genre than you and to create a song that mixes two genres together! For instance, are you a trance producer? Collab with an orchestral producer to make some orchestral trance. Love techno and know someone who produces hardstyle? Techstyle is a thing! Do you like those extreme wubs found in brostep? Well, how would it sound with some smooth jazz!? Okay, maybe that would be weird. But the weirder, the better! Maybe two of you will stumble onto something great! The point is to reach out to someone who works with something completely different and to create something unique. You’ll get to learn more about a genre outside your comfort zone, get some more experience making collabs and, who knows, maybe you’ll learn a little more about friendship (groan).

In addition to the remix war, if you wish to take part in Zorg's intermission song project, you can find the thread here! The previous years were big hits.

Round VII: Timetable, Deadline, and Details

-- Streaming Event --
Unlike previous wars where we stream a series of youtube videos, we will be hosting the event on Celestia Radio! Like last year, we plan to break up the even over a series of days starting on September 21st and going on each weekend day starting in the morning. We plan on using IRC for chat purposes still.

Plans may change so be sure to check this topic often.

BRONY REMIX FAQ:
Q: Can I remix Daniel Ingram? Can I remix the show?
A: No. You can only remix another brony remixing the show.

Q: Can I remix a remix?
A: No. If you like a particular remix, remix the original instead. Remixing a remix blurs who did what and can be confusing.

Q: Who can I remix?
A: Anyone in the community! Participants or not. Just not the show directly.

Q: I need help, can I ask the person I’m remixing for audio stems or MIDI?
A: Yes you may, but it will still be up to the original author to share these or not. Usually they do.

Q: Can I remix myself?
A: What? No! Why would you ask that? Friendship! Make some friends!

Q: I write metal, 8-bit or something that isn’t dubstep. Can I still participate?
A: Absolutely! We WANT people to take songs they like and put it in their own style.

Q: Do I have to do both a remix and a collab?
A: Nope! You can do both, or just choose to do one or the other.

Q: Can we collab on a remix?
A: No, a remix generally is done by one person, as it starts to involve too many people with a single song.

Q: Why do I have to register to your forum in order to participate? Can’t I be anonymous?
A: This new process allows you to do everything yourself, including making corrections to your entries. We can even now export all of this information in bulk as HTML code, playlists, etc, so the event will run smoother. Essentially, the entire event is now automated. Also, the forum will make communication and coordination with other brony musicians easy, considering the premise of this event.

Q: What are your standards on track content?
A: We will be filtering for inappropriate content, such as swearing, sexual references, drug references, or entries that have little artistic merit. Please remember that this is about the music, not the lulz. If you are unsure about what is appropriate, please post your question in the event thread.

Q: Will my entry be judged?
A: No, this is just a friendly event designed to both get its participants to develop their production skills as well as meet more musicians in the fandom.

Yeah, wow, that's really tight. Even if I put my current projects on hold I'm not sure if I can make two complete, polished songs in that time. Even one might be a little rushed. :?

Any chance of pushing the deadline back a month or two? We have barely any time to finish two tracks, and hype the event up enough that people participate.

Oh, so we have to submit 1 remix and 1 collab track? I thought the minimum requirement was either one or both.

Previous remix wars lasted only a month (or less). This leaves you two weeks to finish each track, and if you are pressed for time, you can choose to do just a single entry.

No, you can choose to do one or both.

Word of warning: This will put you through so much pain.

Also, I think I make bigroom because you only need to spam nexus and vengeance samples for that.

I'd be down with anyone who's doing anything jazzy or baroquish; it'd be pretty neat to make some electroswingish stuff. Though I've got no idea on music theory so there's that.

I'd hate to say this but...
I'm new to this whole remixing industry and stuff. Do we tell the original artist that we're going to remix his track or do we just remix it based on the atmosphere of the original track? Is the latter called a bootleg?

No you don't have to tell the original artist you're remixing his track and unless you're Weird Al, it isn't really established etiquette.

Remix it however you want, that's the point of a remix; taking a track and infusing it with your own unique style.

No, a remix is a remix. Iirc a bootleg is just a remix done with only the original song, rather than from the multitracks/stems. It's for this reason that most bootleg remixes are usually remixes of popular mainstream songs with no stems provided; they're also usually illegal too depending on the label. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I might take a swipe in the collab part if anyones interested.

All I do is Drum & Bass, so if anyone wants to collab on that respect, give me a PM. I've never collab'd before so do bare that in mind and I work full-time so I won't be the best for time.

I might be able to do this.

Also, question; for the second part of the war, the OP says "create a track" does this mean you are to create an Original collab, or is it still a remix?

This is why I can't have nice things. I would offer up for a collab with somebody, but I'm away for 2 weeks and unless we can do something in 14 days, I don't think I'll be able to partake.
I'll see how things go though.
