Winter Rap Off is back! (on Fractured Frequencies)

Edit: There's a WRO skype chat (skype:?chat&blob=c9_GxEqoHJfCwcgXqsGt-HgnGRTp_RPG1Gd61GoOoR45w1D0xr-DcfMZLgPVT8u9-leIhVThnV3T_0Hf6P19kN0L19lGsgWx0vmGYMq3KMLcfeWoCP8JvaTV41zb)

TL;DR of below

Explanation

Each month, entrants send in a short rap over a given beat (supplied by a different producer each round), based on the round's theme. People will then upvote the raps they like. Winners receive small prizes like beats, steam games, merch, etc. supplied by Fractured Frequencies Radio (thanks guys ^_^)
It's pretty straightforward, really...

Rules/Boundaries
The following are Rules, and will not be altered for any entry:
  • All entries should be in English, since most Bronies are monolingual, English speakers.
  • Time limit: 30 seconds to 3 minutes. This is to ensure that both people put a decent effort into their track (If you just send an audio clip of yourself shouting "First!", you'll be ignored), and to ensure that people don't go on crazy, 10-man collabs that go for 26 minutes or something ridiculous.
  • Collaborations with other rappers are permitted, but limit one entry per person per round. If you are part of a collab, that is your one entry.

The following are Boundaries, and will be treated on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Winter Rap Off & Fractured Frequencies teams:
  • Make sure your track is related to Friendship is Magic in some manner
  • If you're one to use foul language, use it to actually enhance the track, as auxillary cursing will make you look like you're incompetent and a tryhard. Remember, this is a rap contest, similar in nature to ToastBeard, not "Epic Rap Battles of History", so don't use that liberty to be abusive.
  • Singing parts and dialogue are permitted, so as long as they enhance the rap, and don't take over the focus of the track.

Dates
As soon as the time ticks over to the next month:
  • Past Round's Voting ends
  • Current Round's Voting begins
  • Current Round's Submission ends
  • Next Round's Submission begins

This means that there's always a round to enter, and a round to vote on at any one time. To make it easier, here's a diagram:
Image
(edit: yes, I know April has 30 days, but I forgot that at the time I made this image.)

What's the current theme?
Check WRO's Twitter feed here to see what the latest theme is.

So how do I enter/where are this round's tracks/how do I vote?

PASS ON THE WORD, SO EVERYONE CAN HEAR YOUR RAP, THEY CAN VOTE FOR YOU, AND WE CAN ALL MAKE REFERENCES "BECOMING POPULAR" AND NONCHALANTLY LAUGH AT OUR OWN CLEVERNESS. CANTERLOCK IS BEST LOCK!

Sounds like a sweet idea, however, my guitarist somehow ruined my M-Audio input, and now all I have is a USB headset mic which is passable at best. If I can make it work, however... I'M IN!!

Count me in. I'd love to take part in some sorta battle.

But do you think 25-35 seconds will be enough? That's barely enough for 12 bars, whereas a normal rap verse is 16.

Okay, how about 45-55 seconds? Feedback, anyone?

I would broaden it a little, say between 30-60 seconds, or perhaps just under a minute.
If it's a monthly thing, when do you plan to start? Feb 1st is what I vote for, cause I wanna do this too. =)
Brilliant idea, btw =)

Edited the first post a little. I'm PM’d Makkon, to see if he was willing to set things up.
Makkon wrote:I wouldn't mind facilitating it, but I don't think that you have enough support yet for us to make it into an event.

So we’re going to start as a small affair for the first round or two (or three, etc.) until we can get everypony on board.
AutomaticJack wrote:I would broaden it a little, say between 30-60 seconds, or perhaps just under a minute.

I decided 30-60 sec. If it was just "under a minute", people could essentially submit a sound clip of themselves saying "First!" This way, you have to put some effort in.

Why not? I'll cook something up. I'd also be willing to help in some way. But I doubt that'd be possible.

Wha...? This is like what Walmart does to local farmers. Be nice to the little guy.

...but if you do use it in Toastbeard, could you please say where you got it from and plug this competition?

I've added my own too. What's everyone's opinion on the topic chooser submitting an entry? I'm not sure whether it should be counted or not.

At this stage of the contest as a whole, I'd say we don't have enough people to exclude the topic creator.

Hey guys! Guess What?
Hey,
Since you seem to support EqBeats (I'm one of the developers), I wanted to let you know that we can make a proper page and voting system for the Winter Rap Off.
If you're interested, let me know and we should be able to do that by the following day.
Cheers,
Fred
It's really a Win-Win situation. This makes everything a lot easier for us, and Eqbeats gets a big boost in popularity.
I'll be updating the original post after they've finished making the page, so as to redirect submission and voting there, which means that this thread will most likely turn into a Q&A board.
