Ok, so I sorta got this idea from a video I saw that sort of laughed at the "next gen" mechanics and physics of how current games run. It seems like a lot of game developers boast a "next generation" gaming experience with all these cool new features, when in reality, the "new and exciting" features that they've added in are these small minute features that we've either seen before or are just slight expansions or different takes on ideas we've already seen that don't justify calling it "next gen".
So lemme ask all of you.
What is the next generation gaming experience that you want? What is something that you want to see in videogames that you either have only seen as a concept, in very very few games, or have not seen at all?
For me, the feature that I feel desperately needs to be added into more games is soft body physics. I'm sure you've all heard of soft body physics with games such as BeamNG's "Drive", which while currently in beta, is a great display of what soft body physics can be. Adding soft body physics to games would be much more of an improvement than just "wow, that looks cool". It would provide a bit more challenge to sandbox games like GTA and Watch Dogs, changing the driving element from a "hit the gas and go" to an almost required pace so that you don't wreck your vehicle, which would make escort missions and escape missions much more fun. Speaking of fun, it would also add in a great fun element, since people who enjoy just goofing off in sandbox style games would have an infinite new range of stunts and fuck ups to enjoy. Not to mention that there is indeed a pleasant visual element in soft body physics.
