REMIX WAR IV
Round IV - Role Models

Welcome to the fourth and final round of the successful Brony vs Brony Remix War! By “final”, we mean final until next spring. Our last round had a colossal 56 fantastic entries altogether! Think we can top that?

The purpose of this event is just the same as the last three - It comes in two parts: 1) find a song made by another brony that you like and remix/rewrite it in your own style. 2) swap styles with another brony musician in writing an original song.

Just like the last round, we’ll be using our automated submission form for registering and submission. PHPony, the owner of the site Celestia Radio, has created a web form on our forum mylittleremix.com to make this possible. The submission for for this round can be found here.

Please view our google doc for Remix War IV here

Round IV: Timetable, Deadline, and Details]

--Timetable--

Registration and Composition: August 22nd -- September 17th 11am PST
Results will be submitted to Equestria Daily on September 18th

This may be subject to change if the rumors for season 2 are true.

Why so early in the day? We have a tradition of holding a syncparty after the deadline, and many of our participants all over the world, they want to be able to join in without having to wake at 4am Sunday morning. Details of when exactly the syncparty is will be up on our forums and Equestria Daily along with the final post.
Besides, four weeks is a long time; school is starting and we don’t want everyone to go insane. This also gives you time to make additional entries, and to polish your work. You really won’t have an excuse for being late.

--How to Register--

1) To register, you need to create an account on our forum mylittleremix.com
2) Once you have an account, go here: submission/list.php
3) Click on the event that you want to participate in and select Participate at the bottom of the list. Your name will be added to the list. You will then have the option to withdraw, or submit an entry.

--How to Submit--

Format: Remixer befriends Remixed - Title of Track
e.g: Rarity befriends Applejack - The Beauty of Applebucking

1) Upload your song to YouTube.
2) Set the video as [Unlisted] as opposed to [Public] (You’re free to reveal it after 17th)
3) In the description, post a link to the MP3 download, and a link to the original composer.
4) Submit your entry by clicking on the event and clicking on Submit Entry:
submission/list.php?event=23

You need to fill out every field, including a direct download link. Only mp3 format will be accepted. Any other formats (such as .wav) will not be included in the download pack on Equestria Daily.

--Style Swap Challenge--

As with previous Remix Wars, there is a completely optional challenge track. However, this is where the real magic is. The theme of this challenge is: create an original piece by emulating the style of another brony.

Format: Emulator as Emulated- Title of Track
e.g: Scootaloo as Rainbow Dash - Being Awesome

Find another musical brony and pair up! Two musicians, each emulating one another’s musical style to create two different pieces. Go by the book or create a fusion, this time we’re hoping to get you out of your comfort zone. By emulating the style of another musician you can not only learn the ropes of creating other types of music outside your comfort range but improve your musical prowess overall!

If you don’t want to style swap with someone, you have the option of doing another remix.

Of course, this is all done for fun, and you’ll have a new musical genre under your belt!

Confused about how they do their music? Don’t be! Our artists have detailed their preferences - you can find the forum thread for that here:
http://www.mylittleremix.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=302

We also have a thread for contact information, which you are free to use to contact and communicate with your brony-crony.
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=78

A list of currently announced pairings can be found here:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=324

Round IV: FAQs

BRONY REMIX FAQ:
Q: Can I remix Daniel Ingram? Can I remix the show?
A: No. You can only remix another brony remixing the show.
Q: So it’s a remix of a remix of a remix?
A: Yes. The whole event is a bad Inception pun
Q: Who can I remix?
A: Anyone in the community! Participants or not. Just not the show directly.
Q: Can I remix a brony’s originals or just their remixes?
A: You can remix anything you like, as long as it was made by another brony, and their original song was pony related.
Q: I write metal, 8-bit or something isn’t techno. Can I still participate?
A: Absolutely! We WANT people do take songs they like and put it in their own style.
Q: I need help, can I ask the person I’m remixing for audio stems or MIDI?
A: Yes you may, but it will still be up to the original author to share these or not. Usually they do.
Q: Can I remix myself?
A: What? No! Why would you ask that? This is about making friends, man!
Q: I liked collaborating in the last Remix War. Can I do it again?
A: Of course! It’s up to you to decide who submits the final result though.

CHALLENGE FAQ:
Q: How does a style swap work?
A: You produce a piece of music that is as close to the other musician’s style as possible. You need to challenge this person, so you end up emulating each other. If you want, you can use the same DAWs they use, but it shouldn’t matter a whole lot.
Q: What’s a DAW? Do I even have one?
A: It’s short for Digital Audio Workstation, and the odds are, you probably do have one AND you use it actively... more or less.
Q: Can I style-swap with more than one other brony?
A: If you’re up to the challenge, go ahead!
Q: What if my partner or myself does not have a distinctive style?
A: A smart choice would be to emulate the brony’s most popular style. If they dabble in just about everything, pick your favourite.
Q: Can I just do a track emulating someone’s style without them emulating me back?
A: If you absolutely positively cannot contact another brony, you can do a surprise emulation. Don’t use this as a way out, though - endeavour to find a partner!

GENERAL FAQ:
Q: Can I go straight to the style swap challenge and skip the whole remix thing?
A: Yes.
Q: Why do I have to register to your forum in order to participate? Can’t I be anonymous?
A: This new process allows you to do everything yourself, including making corrections to your entries. We can even now export all of this information in bulk as HTML code, playlists, etc, so the event will run smoother. Essentially, the entire event is now automated. Also, the forum will make communication and coordination with other brony musicians easy, considering the premise of this event.

We’re sorry to say, but this round we will be filtering for inappropriate content, or entries that have little artistic merit. Please remember that this is about the music, not the lulz.
(Although if you are subtle about it, we probably won’t notice)

Please, post any comments or questions you might have here!

Very cool.

I knew what I was remixing as soon as Remix War III was over. I'll get started in the morning.

Woohoo! I'm fairly glad this one is pretty long, I got to move in a week so I won't have to worry about the deadline so much.

Hahaha, you might have to change the end date Makkon. This just got thrown up on EqD:

http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/08/s ... rmony.html

First episode of season 2 is slated for the 17th at 9am Eastern (This may change though).

Either that or we could just have a sweet day. First: the first episode of season 2 and then hours and hours of new music.

Well, since they're going to be airing new episodes every week, we might be a bit distracted. So maybe the 10th instead? This will give us 3 weeks still.

Just to clarify, how many tracks total are we allowed to enter? Because right now I have a collab with Aussie and Omnipony and a swap with Rockin' lined up, as well as some ideas for remixes.

I don't think we should have a limit to how much a person should submit. It's not like any of us are gonna make more than 4 songs anyway.

And yeah Art, since you're done with that Tiesto remix, let's finally get started on that damn thing. :D
MY GIANT REMIX TO-DO LIST
Omnipony - Chrome Saddle
KOR - Spin That Record
JackleApp - Summer
Alex S - Party with Pinkie
Silva Hound - The Seventh Wonderbolt
MrPickle - I Need That
Facade - It's Definitely Not Raining

I've said no limit. That said, noone should be making remixes for the sake of making remixes. That'd be fucking stupid.

Actually, Aus, he just extended the deadline, but I'm just gonna remaster (now that I have producing phones), but it wont't be my top priority. You will <3

I thought I wasn't going to be able to do this one either, but it looks like I may be able to squeeze something out at the last minute if I prepare everything I can beforehand.

At least by next spring I'll probably have made lots of original pony music, though :P
